Amid growing urgency to incorporate climate-related risks into real estate due diligence and asset management, a number of data providers and analytical tools have emerged. However, navigating the complexity and distinctions among these solutions presents a new challenge for investors.
Using the MSCI Real Estate Climate Value-at-Risk (Climate VaR) model we demonstrate how the nature and magnitude of physical risks may differ across assets and portfolios; and highlight the importance of considering transition risk. 1
1The MSCI Real Estate Climate VaR model provides a framework for investors (investment managers, asset owners, banks and insurers) to improve portfolio performance, risk management, regulatory reporting and progress towards broader sustainability goals.
The researchers interviewed firms including BlackRock Inc., CBRE Global Investors, Credit Suisse Group AG, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Moody’s Corp. and Morgan Stanley on how they are considering climate risk.
