8 hours ago This Fairmont M18/19 Master-series Speeder is from a line of vehicles developed to allow railroad workers to inspect track and move to maintenance locations without resorting to an old-fashioned handcar. Originally open to the elements, later models incorporated all-weather cabs, but creature comforts were still limited.

Find it here on Craigslist in Indio, California for $9k. Special thanks to BaT reader Richard F. for this submission. Founded in 1909, Fairmont Railway Motors (in 1915 Fairmont Gas Engine and Railway Motor Car Company) produced speeders, small derrick cars and engines before being absorbed by Harsco Track Technologies (now Harsco Rail) in 1979.
By 1949 Fairmont was offering 19 models of motorcars, most being available in 11 different gauges from 23″ to 66″. The speeders left from the earlier days are now owned by hobbyists and can cost several thousands of dollars to rebuild and maintain. Source Former Queensland Rail (Australia) speeders.
