Blood orange trees grow as moderate size evergreen plants that bear citrus fruits and can be kept as large shrubs. They grow and are can be kept 5 to 15 feet tall, but can become larger. Orange trees grow in full sun and well-draining slightly acidic soils.
Blood oranges get their name from the burgundy flush on their skin, red flesh and juice color. The Moro Blood Orange is the newest named variety in this classification of citrus fruit. This unique citrus tree is the number one blood orange fruit marketed in the US.
You'll find that an open sunny spot with good drainage will keep your new blood orange tree happy. The Moro is cold hardy to an astounding 27 degrees!
Most people harvest their blood oranges in March, for the sweetest juice and the darkest color. Fortunately, the Moro Blood Orange is just as easy to grow as any other orange – and oranges are certainly not hard to grow. If you live in zone 9b and 10 you can grow your tree outdoors in your garden.
